Hi I'm Aiyana-Kopa!

You can call me Aiy ^^

About me

I'm absolutely obsessed with The Walking Dead, it is my favourite thing in existence.
I also ship Caryl and Braime to all ends of the earth and will continue to do so until the day that I die  Carol Dixon Peletier is the Queen, I love her so much! I love Game of Thrones and Gotham as well, but nothing will match my love for TWD

My favourite people ever are Melissa McBride, Norman Reedus, Chandler Riggs, Alex Gaskarth and Hayley Williams. They are amazing, and I would love to meet them someday. Especially Melissa, the most perfect and wonderful human being in existence ^^

I adore Balto, The Lion King, Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmatians, and Frozen. They are my all time favourite animated movies. I love Divergent and the Hunger Games as well.

I love art, and will draw any spare moment I have, and I love trying out new art types and finding new ways to channel my creativity using different mediums, techniques, or even new activities altogether.

Another thing you should know about me is that I have very strong opinions when it comes to social justice. I'm a proud feminist, as well as supporter of gay rights, transgender/transexual people, and people of all races. I believe in equality for all people, and a future where people are judged based on their actions rather than their appearance, sexuality, gender, or culture.

Whats the deal?

Journal Entry: Sun Jan 25, 2015, 7:48 PM

So I just came across a journal that had tips and pointers for getting your art noticed, and at the very end it suggested drawing fanart, but not 'too much' because "would you rather be creative or be known for drawing fanart", or something along those lines. As someone who draws a lot of fanart, reading that was kind of a kick in the gut, and it isn't the first time I've come across this kind of attitude towards fanart.

Why is it that drawing lots of fanart is sometimes branded as 'unoriginal' or 'uncreative'? I draw fanart because I enjoy thinking up headcanons and little stories to expand the universes that I love. And because I purely love the characters and enjoy drawing them in my own scenarios that I myself think up. I think thats pretty creative. I know plenty of other artists who do exactly the same thing, and their art is phenomenal and unique and amazing because they are creative people, and they just so happen to enjoy drawing fanart too. They do art that would be just as amazing if you swapped out the character it was of for one of their own, I see no difference.

I've been seeing this sort of attitude since I started posting and being active on the internet, and that was years ago. People who enjoy fanart will get up one day and say that they want to 'mature' and get better as artists so they think that stopping drawing fanart will make them accomplish that. Wanting to stop fanart and focus on your own art is completely fine, but what I don't understand is why people assume it will hold them back as artists. It doesn't matter what your subject matter is, fanart or otherwise, if you keep practising and working at it you'll still get better and you'll still be expressing creativity in different forms.

Sorry for the mini rant, but I really hate when I see this kind of attitude, because I love drawing my fanart and it feels kind of awful when people assume that to be creative you have to do art that isn't related to fandoms or franchises. And I know not all people think this way, not at all, but its still kind of sucky to see it when I do.
